| Last week, I was officially offered a position at the University. I was very excited and relieved. I am excited because I have this wonderful opportunity to be a place where I can grow so much professionally and spiritually. I am relieved because I have a job and that I have money to pay for rent each month. It is a wonderful job and a wonderful opportunity for me. I really like it here at the University. I have great co-workers, I work with really awesome and highly motivated students and it is a lot of fun. I am really looking for it and I am extremely thankful.
Today, I attended a staff retreat and one of the activities that we did was listing some defining moments in our life and sharing it with others. I thought I will share a few with you!
- 1987 - When my family moved to the United States from Hong Kong
- 2000 - Graduated from high school and started dating my future husband

- 2004 - Graduated with a Bachelor of Arts and began my graduate degree
- 2006 - (Feb) I was baptized (May) Graduated with a Master of Education (Aug) Starting my first professional job
You may wonder...what happened to me between 1987-2000...during that period of time, I did have some defining moments in my life, but none that I could really specifically list. During that period of time, I developed my interest in journalism and writing, I met a lot of good friends that are still in my life and some of my earliest mentors came along during that time but I was too young to recognize that or appreciated what they have done in my life.

| So, it has been about two weeks since I last updated my Xanga. I have been pretty busy lately though. I recently made a commitment to stay at the university that I just graduated from for another year by signing a lease for a one bedroom apartment w/o knowing if I have a job here or not. It was certainly a leap of faith....and so far the job opportunity looks promising but nothing certain yet. I have been praying about it a lot and I certainly hope things work out.
So for the past week or so, I have been moving my stuff from one apartment to another. It can be a hassle when you don't have a car and I didn't want to trouble my friends...so I did most of the moving by walking back and forth (the apartment is about a block away). It was certainly good exercise and I am almost done. Now I just have to clean my old apartment .
I feel really blessed with the one bedroom I found . It was certainly affordable compared to the other ones on campus and it was at a great location. I also like that it is not owned by some big local rental company. The landlady has been really nice - repainted most of the apartment and did other minor work. It is a nice space, big enough for me and it is my own place. I want to buy many new things for the apartment, but I have decided that when I do have my first professional job, I still want to live more like a college student and save money.
So...that is what I have been up to...I will let everyone know when I have a job..until then...please pray for me.

| To no surprise, I spent July
4th weekend in my boyfriend and with my family. One unique thing that I did this holiday
weekend was that I went to see the Cirque Shanghai at Navy Pier with my
boyfriend and his best friend and family. What is Cirque Shanghai? Here is the description…
“More than a traditional
Chinese circus, Cirque Shanghai is a full-scale theatrical production featuring
a daring explorer who leads the audience on an adventure through China, where
they encounter gravity-defying aerial artists, jaw-dropping acrobats, amazing
contortionists and more. A great adventure for the whole family!”
It was interesting, definitely
something new for me. We decided to go
see it because after watching Wicked, we wanted to explore other shows and my
boyfriend’s mom wanted to see this, so we got tickets. It is pretty cool, I really enjoyed it. I asked my parents if they were interested,
but they said no…the painted faces and everything is a little too much. As I get older and more financially
independent, I want to give my parents more. But I don’t know how. Anyhow, that was my July 4th
weekend…plus we watched Superman Returns as well.
| Things have been going pretty well for me lately...the only hang up is finding a job. I have been working at the same place where I worked as a graduate assistant temporarily for the summer, which is great because I love my job. I am really hoping to get a full time position there, but so far no word yet . I was really hoping I will find out this week, but so far no luck. It would be nice to know I have a job and if I do, I will probably need to start looking for a place to live next year. I started looking and find this nice one bedroom apartment for an awesome price and a great location . I want to sign the lease so bad and just get it....I think I might just do it.
I am home again...and it seems like I am traveling home quite often. It is one thing after another...anniversary, birthday, graduation, and so on...it is getting a little tiring . Although I do find great deals on Amtrak. I really need to learn how to drive! I called some local places, they are too busy with teens that they don't want to work with adult drivers. Ahhh ...how am I ever going to get a license.
I watched Disney's Car recently at the theatre, it is pretty good except it is a little long. I am REALLY looking to watch the new Pirates of the Caribbean. I think Johnny Depp makes a great pirate, Orlando Bloom is so handsome and Keira Knightly is just gorgeous. I am really looking forward to it. I think that is the only movie that I really desire to see this summer. I might go see Superman Returns w/ some folks this weekend, but it is mostly just hanging with friends and catching up.
Happy July 4th weekend! Relax...have fun....and remember sunblock if you are out in the sun!
PS: I have been trying to finish this book...I got it for a gift and it is one of many books on my reading list.
